Eventually, still a puppy he was adopted by a lady who had adopted several pups from Headrock Dogs in the past. She said that he’d be her special puppy; we thought Tappi had found his forever home.

Sadly we were mistaken. The owner went away for several months and left Tappi in the care of her workers who didn’t like him. It was no longer a home and so he ran away.

When his owner returned she tried to catch him. She’d abandoned him, why would Tappi go running to her when she called? He’d found a nice lady’s garden, who fed him a little too. Tappi was doing OK until he was hit by a motorbike. He was lucky he hadn’t broken any bones, but his leg was very painful and had hopped around on 3 legs for a long time.

One day out of the blue we stopped nearby and recognised Tappi. I got out and called him by name. Tappi recognised my voice and came running. I was shocked by how thin he was and she saw that he had an injured leg; I cried on the journey back to Headrock Dogs where Tappi’s been ever since.

Tappi suffers from stomach acid so needs anti-acid medicine regularly to keep his food down, this is why he’s still quite thin. His delicious diet consists of rice and chicken with oils and vitamins to help his tummy.

When he walks he holds up his leg that was injured, even though there were no broken bones. Tappi gets special massages to help strengthen his leg and shoulder which were partially dislocated at the same time. It’s been a slow recovery.

Recently he had a nasty attack of blood parasites which is caused by ticks. Thep and I were away and no one noticed he had lots of ticks sucking his blood. When we got back we saw all the ticks and quickly treated him with Doxycycline.

It takes a few days for Tappi to accept new people. For a bit of naughty fun, he occasionally runs toward new people! He’s much more confident than he used to be and no longer hides under his bed, although he does sometimes retreat to his kennel if he’s feeling a little scared.

At 8 years old some would say he’s getting quite old. He’s not a strong dog due to his past health issues. We are worried that the blood parasite attack may have damaged his kidneys so he's on a special diet to keep them healthy.

Please sponsor Tappi so Headrock Dogs can keep his kidneys healthy for a few more years.
